    Okay, now onto the workshops..
First up, is a watercolor workshop on August  19th.
In this fun workshop you will learn a loose and spontaneous watercolor technique .

Flowers, still life, figures, shells, underwater marine life could all be subjects suited to this technique. You will work from photographs.

Rae will show you how she divides her backgrounds and plays with shapes and geometry  enveloping and complimenting the subject to achieve a balanced realistic/abstraction result.
It's a lot of fun, and the student will learn about design as well as technique.
     ......................................................................................................................

Workshop 2..August 21st .. please see general details on times etc as  for the above workshop.
Cost $65 for the day now including materials.

This is a Pastel Workshop, using pastels in a less formal way, with ribbons of color as a backdrop, into and over which, the subject is developed.

The substrate will be velour paper (purchased at Asels Art Supplies, a captivating surface for the pastelist.

The subject for this one could be anything the student desires, still life, figurative, cityscape, trees, even landscape to name a few.

Don't be shy with this one, this is a wonderfully freeing technique for those pastel artists stuck in a rut.

More workshops for the next few months will follow.
I would love to see you soon,
    Happy painting everyone

Art Instruction for the Working Professional

One of my students was struggling to carve out time for class, so the studio time evolved into a “Painting Analysis” session. We have both found this to be a great alternative. Not everyone has the time to take studio instruction twice a week, so I wanted to offer an alternative.

    Painting Analysis

    How it works:

Artist brings work in progress to my studio once a week.

We review the piece together for strength and weakness.

Artist makes a list of additions or corrections to be made.

Corrections are made in artist’s studio on their time.

Artist returns for further analysis until satisfied with the results.

Price per one hour session $45.00

Pay for 6 Sessions and receive a $20.00 discount.

Call Debra Richardson at 830-928-3393 to schedule a Painting Analysis session.

Step out - Make a commitment to grow.

How many times have you stopped working on a painting - said you were finished, and were disappointed because you didn't get the result you were hoping for?

Build your confience and technical ability to produce the quality of work you really want.

Many of my students tell me that they were very nervous about starting classes. Here is what one student had to say:

“...I have always appreciated art and had a desire to take a class, but I was always too scared—what if I couldn’t draw? What if I didn’t understand the instructions? What if the instructor was critical and impatient?

As Debra’s student, I had no need to worry. She taught me so much about art as well as how to relax and enjoy the process. Her patience, clear instruction, encouragement, and sweet personality made it possible for me to accomplish more than I ever expected as a beginner...”  -   E. Anton

Instruction is available for portraits and still life in pastel, watercolor, and oil.

Evening and day classes are now available.

Make 2010 the Best Year Ever!

If you have thought about taking one last mini vacation before the end of the year, please consider joining me for my upcoming Pastel Workshop, Tuesday - Thursday, November 3, 4, & 5, 2009 at the Rockport Center for the Arts in Rockport, Texas. The cost is $250 for members and $280 for non members.

During this 3 day class you will learn how to use watercolor to create an underpainting of color that will ultimately peek through the upper layers of pastel to create painting effects that glow, that are full of energy and sparkle with light.

This workshop has quickly become one of my very favorite ones to teach due to the fact that it is in such a beautiful location. However, the class is quickly approaching so if you are interested in participating, don’t delay in signing up. There are still a few openings availble.

For more information please contact The Rockport Center for the Arts at 361-729-5519.
