JUROR - Desmond O'Hagan (www.desmondohagan.com) of Denver, works in a variety of media but his primary focus is pastels and oils. He's an award-winning artist and a designated Master Pastelist with the Pastel Society of America, and has participated in solo and group exhibitions across the country and internationally. His work has been the subject of articles in numerous magazines including American Art Collector, The Artist's Magazine, International Artist, Southwest Art, and The Pastel Journal, among others. His work is represented by galleries in Denver, Santa Fe, Los Angeles, Chicago and Vail, Colo.

PROSPECTUS


ELIGIBILITY

The contest is open to paid members of the Austin Pastel Society. Click here to join APS.  You can renew your membership on this site if necessary.

Work must be at least 80% soft pastel, determined by the exhibition committee; no oil pastel. Nupastels and other "harder" pastels are considered soft pastels.

All works must be original, unpublished and completed within the last two years. Compositions based on published material or other artists' work are NOT considered original and are not eligible. Paintings executed in a workshop under another artist's supervision or paintings based on another person's photograph (even if copyright-free) are NOT eligible.
Artwork that has received a Best of Show Award in a previous APS Juried Member Show is ineligible.  
The Austin Pastel Society reserves the right to reject work deemed unsuitable for exhibition at the venue. Figural nudes are not allowed.

Artwork selected must hung. There will be no substitutions of paintings prior to or during the run of the show.
 
Artwork must be framed in  professional manner, ready to hang, with no saw-toothed hangers. Either Plexiglas or glass will be allowed.

Exhibition Chair reserves the right to reassign paintings to different categories based on the juror’s selection due to the varying number of entries per category. Prizes will be awarded accordingly.

FEES AND PAYMENT


Entry fee is $25 per artist, maximum three (3) entries, payable online or by check made payable to the Austin Pastel Society.
This is a member only show and artists must be a member of APS to participate.  Artists who are not current members of APS may join either online or by including a separate payment for dues of ($30) along with their entry fee check.

DIGITAL IMAGE SPECIFICATIONS

Digital Entries Only
You may enter work in any category with a limit of three (3) entries per artist.
Make sure that the digital images of your artwork are high quality, look professional and accurately represent your work. Paintings received which do not match the digital image may be rejected.
Image size must be a maximum of 2000 pixels in either width or height with a maximum file size of 2Mb in the JPEG (.jpg) format. (If you would like help sizing your images, we will have a digital clinic at our October meeting.)
Name your file with the title of the image.
The titles of the image files must match the titles in the entry form.



SUBMITTING YOUR ENTRY

Submission is by digital image only via this website entry form. Go to the "Events Page" link on the Home page at www.austinpastelsociety.org. On the right you will see a list of events. Select the 2009 Annual Juried Exhibition event. Click on the Registration button on the lower left corner of the Event.  You can then register and pay for the show.  There will be a link to the image entry form on the registration confirmation email.  This link will take you to the entry form.  There are instructions at the top of the page for multiple entries. You must be a paid member of APS in order to see the Registration button on the Events Page.  You can join APS via the instructions below. You can renew your APS membership by entering your email and logging in to your Membership Profile.  If you have any problems registering please send an email to webmaster@austinpastelsociety.org or call Libby Peters at 512-894-4437.

DEADLINE

Entries and fees must be received by Sunday, January 11, 2009
There will be no exceptions to entry dates or methods of entry.

NOTIFICATION

All entries will be posted on this website, www.austinpastelsociety.org. You can check the website to verify that your entry has been received. (It may take a little while to post the entries, especially immediately after the deadline, so please be patient!)

Notification of accepted entries will be posted on the APS website,  on February 15th, 2009.

Artists will be responsible for checking the website for results. There will be no individual notices sent. All results will be posted on the website.

The decision of the judge will be final.

Free parking will be available in the Chase Bank Parking Garage on 8th & Guadalupe on both days. Take a ticket, the gates will be open at the exit.  Take the elevators down to the lower level to reach the Corridor of Art.

Pick up and delivery is the responsibility of the artist or their agent. No work will be removed from the premises or stored by the Austin Pastel Society.

The reception is open to all.

SALES

Sales will be between the artist and individuals wishing to purchase work.

It is not required that work shown be for sale.  Please place NFS in the price field for work that is not for sale.

LIABILITY

Although the Austin Pastel Society will exercise due care in handling works, the Austin Pastel Society, its agents, Chase Bank or its agents will not be responsible for any loss or damage to any work of art.

Entry in this show give the Austin Pastel Society the right to photograph or use the submitted images for promotional purposes, including posting submitted, accepted or award winning entries on the APS website.
