General Meeting - Glassless Pastel Demonstration

  • May 24, 2009
  • 04:00 PM - 06:00 PM
  • Tres Amigos Restaurant - 1801 South Capital of Texas Hwy (Loop 360), Austin, TX 78746

by Marie Maines

Marie will be demonstrating the use of a fixative made from poly vinyl acetate glue size.  It is archival, odorless and non-toxic!  It can be used on each layer of color added to a pastel painting and the resulting painting can be framed without glass - if it is on a non-paper based surface.  She  will show how  it is used on plywood panels, plaster, ampersand and gator board.

The fixative can also be used in a pastel painting that is finished in a traditional way and framed under glass.  Examples of paintings with the fixative used  in the beginning stages of the painting and one where she used the fixative in all but the last layer of pastel, will be available to see.
Members will see that it looks more like a traditional pastel after these techniques.

Marie also work on paper stretched on canvas stretchers and will give a  demo on how to stretch her paper.
